Writer's Block: Tough Choices Feb. 6th, 2012 @ 06:39 pm
If forced to give up one, which would you choose: love, friendship, or family?

Love, it's not something I really considered for myself. I'm already content with my friends and family, along with my pet budgie. Perhaps it is just because I can never find anyone I could commit a serious relationship with.

It's Been a Crazy Weekend Feb. 5th, 2012 @ 05:50 pm
I was first persuaded to grade for the first level of Shotokan on Saturday. I did study and I was drilled until my hands were covered in sweat. When I was asked a question for the knowledge portion, the grading board was laughing when I was answering, which really was embarrassing for me. Let's just say that I was relieved when it was over.

There was my face painting job after the grading. I made it to my job on time and the children at the party were all excited about the face painting. Seeing those kids get excited and very happy was really a big satisfaction about the work I did. When the children are happy about the results, I know that I had done well.

Poor Pip, my pet bird has been having nasty problems and the mess has been left on his feathers. I got him some nutritional supplement to mix in his drinking water, since his little problem might be due to lack of nutrition in his regular food. However, he is over six years old, so his age might be giving him some issues. When I cleaned his cage, he got his claws caught in the shower curtain because he tried climbing it. It was really frustrating to pull his claws out of the fabric because Pip kept squirming and flapping. He wasn't hurt, but he was sure in a bad mood for a while. I just hope that he won't stay mad at me for too long.

A Lot of Crazy Things to Do... Jan. 30th, 2012 @ 07:22 pm
Perhaps it has been way too long since my last post here. It's that I've been tied up in a lot of things. First is this children's book project that requires my illustration services, I'm quite excited about it. When it comes to finding graphic design work, it's always a struggle because everyone wants that one graphic design position and only the most qualified person will get it. I was actually lucky to get this project and it's something that I can do well.

There's also the face painting job on the weekend, I'm excited to do that too. The kids love the face painting and I really can do creative stuff. Already I did some Valentine's Day themed designs, since February is closing in.

Since I am with RGD Ontario, I know that I should attend seminars and webinars (seminars done over the internet) to keep updated on the latest tips and tricks for Graphic Designer. I keep to local seminars only, I find traveling to other cities such a cost on time and money, but I'm glad that there are a few in my home town. Webinars are fun too, I just remain in my own house and just take notes on the lecture over the internet.

I am also considering learning Russian, I know a little bit of French from my early high school years and Japanese from karate, so I would like to give Russian a shot. There are 3 reasons why I would concern learning Russian, first is that some people comment on my posts in Russian and it would be good for me to learn how to understand those comments, second is that my grandmother's father was from Russia and I have to be in touch with a little bit of my heritage, third is just that I loved Jason Flemyng's portrayal of Azazel as a red-skinned Russian assassin. My third reason is silly, I admit.

Face painting Gigs Dec. 7th, 2011 @ 11:27 am
Now that it's December, I find myself busy getting into face painting gigs. I already did two gigs on a Sunday, which were both very great. First was a party at a country club where the children were very happy to get their faces painted. The second was an outdoor event, which was chilly, very busy, and the kids loved it. I really made an achievement for those events and I've got a third event coming on Saturday. Hopefully I can do another gig before the holiday closes in, it's really exciting.

How long has it been? Nov. 11th, 2011 @ 05:09 pm
Well, I suppose that I should explain why I haven't posted in the last few months. First of all was that I got a temporary job at a Halloween superstore, which closed on the 31st of October and my last day was the 1st of November. It was a fun and exciting job, I learned much about cashier work and customer service. Now that it's over, I have to look for new employment. I have been sending resumes to different places, but no responses yet.

Now that I'm back, I have a bunch of icons to share. They're all X-Men: First Class icons, mostly focused on Azazel. I really thought that Jason Flemyng was gorgeous in all that red make-up, his performance with the fight scenes were also entertaining, even though he didn't say much. Just a warning, some of these icons imply slash like Azazel/Riptide and Shaw/Azazel.

» So much to brush up on...
First of all, I must admit that I haven't been posting much here because I didn't have much to post and lets just say that I was really busy during the month of August. So I will describe with good detail what I have been doing during the last few weeks.

The good news is that I got a new client for my graphic design services, which I am glad for. I was asked to design a simple clothing catalogue, which I easily accomplished on Microsoft Word with the family computer because my laptop stopped working and I took a while to decide on a new computer. Anyway, I was able to finish designing and revising the catalogue in a short amount of time. My client was very satisfied with my work.

Another thing is that I've been busy with my martial arts classes. I had to really attend a lot, train harder, and study more often because there was a grading on Aug. 28. The pressure of training and studying over the month was really driving me crazy. By the time of the grading, I was nervous and couldn't stop trembling. However, I performed as best as I could and I passed. :) I've levelled up to Nidan, which is 2nd degree Black Belt. Now that it's over, I feel very relieved.

On September 10, my martial arts class will be performing a demonstration, which has also been keeping me busy. I've been preparing for it and hopefully I'll be able to perform well. Once it's done, I can get back to my normal mode and focus on my graphic design business and other things that need to be done.
» Writer's Block: It’s Women’s Equality Day!
Do you think women are treated as equals? What changes would you like to see?

For the most part, yes, there is equality in most of the world. However, there are countries where the women don't have equal rights, which is something that I would like to see changed.
» Writer's Block: My name's Forrest, Forrest Gump
What’s your favorite Tom Hanks movie or character, and why?

Does the Toy Story trilogy count? I did like the Da Vinci Code, even though the book was better, it was still a good mystery and suspsense film.
» Big Projects underway
Well, the face painting gig did turn out alright, but it rained and I had to move my station indoors. The children loved the face painting I've done for them. Most of the girls wanted butterflies while the boys wanted snakes. The work to get all of the children painted only took an hour and a half, which isn't so bad considering I had to do some big face painting designs. It's the accomplishment that provides the most satisfaction.

I've got to finish up this website project, sadly my laptop is freezing up so I have to use the slow family computer for the project. I know which computer I'm getting as a replacement, so I can do my projects more efficiently. Right now, I just have to work with what I've got available.
» Face painting gig
I do have some good news to share after this hectic week, I've got a new face painting gig! On Sunday, I'll be asked to do some face painting for a child's birthday party and I'm really excited about it. Right now I am just organizing the face painting kits and printing out the design sheets for the children to select from. Face painting might not have much pay like Graphic Design, but it does keep me on my feet if there are no design projects to do.
